"The Community Garden will utilize six raised bed planters and that were constructed by Kenton Reeh, a local Boy Scout, who built them to complete his Eagle Rank advancement for Troop 9132, part of the St. Michael’s Church, according to a press release from the city.

Of the six planters, one garden planter is designated as a “Community Garden Bed,” which was filled with cherry tomato plants, basil and jalapeno pepper plants for public consumption. The remaining five beds are open to residents and community members on a first-come first-serve basis, prioritizing city residents."

"The city of Oak Park Heights made the call March 23 to postpone its annual Party in the Park this year due to ongoing concern over the COVID-19 pandemic.

In lieu of the usual events, the city is hosting a virtual self-paced walk/run June 1-15. Participants will track their own results in walking or running a 5K loop of parks and trails throughout Oak Park Heights, submitting their times when they’ve completed the route, according to information given to the Stillwater Gazette by city administrator Eric Johnson. A 10K route that takes folks through every city park will also be an option."

"...Only two months into her term, Johnson said she’s been mainly learning how to be a local government official. Mayor Mary McComber said that she’s learning fast. Johnson 'brings a fresh and different perspective to the council,' McComber said. 'She listens, she communicates, and she is not afraid to speak up ... which is very important if [the council] wants to work as a team.' ... [Carly] declined to speculate too much on her future. For the time being, she's more concerned about what's next than what's to come. 'Right now I just need to focus on learning the job of a City Councilmember.'"

"Johnson was quick to credit her mentors for helping her reach this moment. She says public service has been her passion since she was in the seventh-grade, serving as a prosecutor in a mock trial. 

'... I'm representing my generation,' Johnson said. 'That new perspective has been helpful, especially when we're looking at social media policy and making [local government] more accessible to people.' 

Johnson adds she is looking forward to diving into Oak Park Heights energy and water policies and believes her science degree will be beneficial. She plans to serve on the parks commission."

"Barring a last minute write-in campaign, 22-year-old Carly Johnson will be sworn in as an Oak Park Heights City Council member in January...She will likely be the youngest person to ever serve on the council, said Oak Park Heights Mayor Mary McComber.

'She seems eager to learn....I’m looking forward to a fresh perspective,' McComber said. 'I’m hoping she will draw more younger people to get involved.' ... Hammond said. 'If anyone’s up to the challenge of learning a difficult job like that at a younger age, it’s Carly.'"
